REFLECTIONS ON THE PRAYER BLANKET MINISTRY
I wanted to update everyone on the Prayer Blanket Ministry. When I look back at what has been accomplished by a group of faith-filled, devoted ladies I am so humbled and moved. When we started this ministry around the first of March, 2023, we were a new church with a new idea. We didn’t have church offices yet and Sharon Heflin very graciously open her home to become a “prayer blanket factory”. We met in Sharon’s home about once a week. Several ladies ironed bonding on material, some ladies drew the patterns on the material that bonding ironed on it, some ladies cut out the patterns and some ladies spread out through Sharon’s home ironing the patterns on the blankets. The ladies took material home and cut out the patterns while others ironed bonding on material at home. Others designed some of the patterns.
We knew when we started this ministry that because of the size of our congregation we would need to build a good sized “stock pile” of completed blankets. So for several months we worked hard at making blankets. All the times we worked on the blankets one thing was consistent, we felt God’s presence with us as we made blankets. We talked many times about how we were moved and in a prayerful mindset working on them. We thought about the person that would be getting the blanket and knew they would feel the love and prayers, not just from those of us making them, but from every hand that touched the blankets and prayed over them.
We have had so many cards, notes, phone calls and conversations with those that have received the blankets telling us how moved they have been by the blanket and the comfort they felt. And, yes, they felt the hands that had worked on them and the hands that touched them and prayed over them.
Once the blankets are completed that will be on the altar for prayer Sunday, April 21, we will have completed 141 blankets and given out 98. WOW! WOW! This has been done in little over a year.
The ladies furnish the bonding and the material. The purchase of the blankets and the cost of embroidering our logo is done from donations. If God is leading you to contribute to this ministry you can through the church app or in the offering on Sunday. Just designate your contribution as Prayer Blanket Ministry.
Please continue to pray for this ministry as we continue giving comfort, hope and love through these blankets.
